Between 5th and 14th January 2018, a unique Irish cultural festival will happen in Fremantle, called Fenians, Fremantle Freedom Festival and it will be showcasing the richness of Irish culture and its lasting impact on Australia.
The inaugural Fenians, Fremantle Freedom Festival is a 10-day festival celebrating Irish culture and influence in Australia.As well as this, it is also a commemorative event to honour the Fenians and others transported to Fremantle on the last convict ship sent to Australia, the Hougoumont.
The Festival is commemorating the 50th anniversary of the arrival into Fremantle of the Hougoumont, which was Australia's last convict ship carrying 62 Irish Fenian freedom fighters.
